Learning Facilities

The Department provides a variety of facilities for students to acquire their clinical experience, such as simulated medical -surgical ward for students to practice nursing skills teaching and learning center for obstetric and pediatric nursing consultation room, and a community nursing laboratory. In addition, the University provides facilities to enhance students’ learning, which include a library, performance hall, computer labs, swimming pool,  cardiopulmonary and weight training room, tea ceremony classroom, flower arrangement classroom, distance learning classroom, and a calligraphy and painting classroom.

Simulated medical-surgical ward
There are seven patient units and one intensive care unit in the simulated medical-surgical ward which are equipped similar to those in a hospital. The equipment includes electric hospital beds, multi-functional dummy patients, intravenous injection training arms, enema administration training models, hip muscle injection models, heart sounds and breath sounds Auscultation practice models, intramuscular injection models of upper arm muscles, and human body models. In addition to learn clinical nursing skills in the class, students use their spare time to practicing.

Teaching and learning center for Obstetric and pediatric nursing care
To enhance students’ skills in maternal care, the department assists them learn from using breastfeeding models, pregnancy experience suit, Palpation Module for Leopold’s Maneuvers, breast models, pregnant patient’s models, and   Students wear pregnancy experience simulation suit to experience how pregnant women feel about their physical load and how they move around. Students also use these models to learn and practice skills in providing maternal care.  For pediatric nursing care practice, students are able to practice infant CPR on Little baby QCPR, and experience parenting on taking care of the RealCare® the infant simulator.

Community Nursing Lab
To assist students to carry out their learning in a clinical environment, the department provides a hemiplegia simulation suit and geriatric simulator for them to experience how the stroke patient or elderly live everyday lives.

 

The University has a Medical Simulation Center for medical students to gain their surgical skills, along with Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital’s Objective Structured Clinical Skills Assessment Center (OSCE) provides nursing students with opportunities to enhance their clinical skills.
